Annual General Meeting
Saturday, April 27, 2019
ST JOACHIM'S CHURCH 86 CRAWFORD ST. SOUTH PORCUPINE
Ontario Horticultural Association Representative: Kelly Taylor
12:00 noon Lunch , Draws, Competition Viewing, Silent Auction Bid,
1:15 Paul Raiche Tie-Tying Bouquets
2:00 Coffee Break
2:15 Jonathon "Jonny" St Pierre Full Beard Brewing
At our meeting yesterday (barely had a quorum because of the weather) 21 attended – 41 had been expected. (Even the OHA Rep didn’t make as flight cancelled out of Toronto),
Only Kapuskasing, Porcupine, Timmins, and Kirkland members were in attendance. The stormy weather kept Englehart, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, members at home.
Needless so say, there was lots of food and extra beer during the Full Beard Brewery owner’s presentation.
Those of us who could attend enjoyed the day.

District 12 Northeastern Ontario Annual Meeting
Sat., April 28, 2018
Timmins, ON.
"From the Ground Up"
The Timmins Society did a fabulous job of hosting- the snacks and lunch were delicious, the hall was decorated nicely, the silent auction was wonderful, there were lots of free door prizes, the competitions were well entered. Kees Stryland of the Timmins Society and Timmins Council rep, Mike Doody brought greetings from the town. The business meeting in the a.m. went smoothly, with a report from Ginny Montminy on the Bursary, a report on the website from Rick Heaslip was read, Treasurer Kathy Buller gave her financial report, OHA rep Charles Freeman spoke to us about the role of the Ontario Horicultural Association and its past year's events, Director Anne Jamieson spoke on the events in District 12, and Eileen Fisher gave the Nominating report. Charles Freeman, OHA representative responsible for the northeast area of the province, ran the elections. Anne was relelcted as District Director, Peggy MacIntyre of KL will be First Assistant Director, and Billie Rheault of Porcupine will be Second Assistant. Kathy Buller returns as Treasurer, Ginny Montminy and Amy Vickery-Menard will be the Bursary co-chairs, Rick Heaslip will continue as Webmaster, and E. Fisher will continue as Nominating Committee chair. After a delicious lunch, the meeting, which followed the theme 'From the Ground Up', continued with a presentation on 'Herb Spirals' by Katrina Pelchet. This way of gardening was new to all of us. Next, Harri Ollila, husband of Sharon Minnett Ollila, spoke to us on the topic 'Reclaiming the Land', and was an interesting and passionate speaker on the topic of how the mining industry is working to improve on past mistakes and should be held accountable all over the world for their work. The afternoon concluded with a demonstration by Vicki Lodovici of The Love Bug florist shop. Vicki gave hints and tips for handling floral material and designing, and put together an amazing bouquet of mixed flowers that was packed full of various foliage, lots of roses, and at least four stems of gorgeous orchids! This beautiful arangement was given to long time Iroquois Falls gardeners, Sonia and Louis Fortier. (Report and photos courtesy Eileen Fisher)
